Derrick Holmes signed his national letter of intent today, committing to play for the Rhode Island Rams as part of National Signing Day. It was first reported by URI football’s official Twitter account.

Derrick Holmes is the twin brother of Nathan Holmes and they both come to Rhody together. Like his brother, Derick played for Hargrove Military Academy in Hargrove, MA. Holmes also attended Nauset Regional High School in North Eastham, Massachusetts. Just about the only thing he doesn’t have in common with Nathan is that Derrick projects as a safety.
Joe Trainer weighed in once again:
“We think Derrick is going to be a great safety for us. He looks the part. When you are looking at intangibles, Derrick is a kid who has tremendous passion for the game, and that is always important in the recruiting process.”
The scouting report indicates that Holmes has a real knack for reading defenses pre-snap. He’s built athletically and is a very physical player. It should be fun to watch him progress through his career at URI.
