Mike Ezirike has committed to the Rhode Island Rams football program today as part of National Signing Day. The signing of his letter of intent was first announced via URI football’s official Twitter account.

Ezirike is actually already enrolled at URI, as he comes to Rhody from Fork Union Military Academy in Laurel, MD. He was only at Fork Union for a year; previous to that he attended St. Vincent Pallotti High School, also in Laurel. Rhody has built a pipeline of sorts between themselves and Fork Union, with both Andre Scott and Sam Hartman being recruited from there last year.
Much like what we’ve seen from time to time in basketball recruiting, Ezirike kind of flew under the radar and was not receiving a lot of interest from other schools. But make no mistake – this is a player that Rhody is very high on. Here’s what coach Trainer had to say:
“Mike is already enrolled here as a post-graduate student who went to Fork Union Military Academy. Even though he’s coming in as a freshman, he’s got an opportunity to come in and help next fall because he’s made the transition to college already. He’s very, very athletic.”
Athleticism seems to be the key for Ezirike, as he recorded 44 tackles and 11 sacks in his senior year of high school. If Ezirike can get to the quarterback with any sort of consistency, he has the ability to transform Rhody’s entire defense.
