First, a disclaimer: there is not much new to report on the recruiting front as it relates to the Rhode Island Rams. But there is a player that has been lingering in the background for quite some time, and it’s very possible that come April 17th, we could be hearing his name a lot more. Of course we’re talking about current CCRI star and JuCo target Desmond Williams. We wrote about Williams two and a half months ago, and he proceeded to tear it up for the Knights this season.
A quick glance at the sophomore’s season shows some pretty impressive numbers. He scored a shade under 23 points per game on 41.6 percent shooting, including 30 percent from three. Not jaw-dropping shooting numbers, but the kid can put the ball in the basket for sure. He also mixed in five rebounds and 2.7 assists over his 27 game season. On paper, he’s quite similar to Xavier Munford, and that would seemingly be the role he could fill. In terms of the shooting guard/small forward/wing man role, the Rams have Munford, T.J. Buchanan, and Jarelle Reischel next season. That’s just three players to fill two spots, so Rhody could use to add another body or two. But will Williams land in Kingston?
The answer seems to be, “If Dan Hurley and the coaching staff want him.” From Bill Koch of College Chalktalk:
Per #CCRI coach Rick Harris, #Creighton making late push for Knights SG Desmond Williams. #URI, #Quinnipiac, Loyola Marymount also involved.

Harris said #URI is still Williams top choice. Harris spoke with #LMU coach Max Good today. #Rams

If the CCRI star has Rhode Island as his top choice, then seemingly all it will take is for the feeling to be mutual. Is that the case? We’re just a month away from finding out.
