The Rhode Island Rams are set to get back in action this afternoon following a 4-2 road win over the Northeastern Huskies yesterday. Rhody will return home for another non-conference game, this time against the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils. URI will look to improve on their 5-3 record at home as they try to inch closer to the .500 mark on the season. The Rams currently sit at 12-14 in this year’s campaign.
CCSU comes into today’s contest at an even 10-10 so far this season. They haven’t fared well against Atlantic 10 competition, however. Back on March 9th, they were swept in a double-header by St. Joseph’s in Philadelphia, with the Blue Devils scoring just 5 runs total in the two games. Central Connecticut has been up and down quite a bit this season, amassing both a five-game winning streak and a four-game losing streak so far. Their losing streak came more recently, but they were able to snap it over the weekend with an 8-4 victory over Monmouth.
The Blue Devils are led on offense by Tyler McIntyre, and he is certainly a player that Rhody pitchers need to be very careful with. The senior is batting .436 with a pair of homers and 21 RBI on the season. McIntyre leads CCSU’s offense in virtually every category, and he’s coming off a First Team All-Conference appearance in his junior season. On the bump, Central Connecticut is paced by Jack Greenhouse, who holds a 4-1 record on the season. His 2.48 ERA is equally impressive, but his strikeout numbers are… not. In 36 and 1/3 innings, Greenhouse has fanned just 14 batters, so he seems to be more of a pitch-to-contact type of guy.
Despite a few bumps in the road as of late, Rhody has been playing some great baseball as of late. Can they start another winning streak this afternoon? First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
