After a tough weekend series against Xavier, the Rhode Island Rams baseball team will try to get back to their winning ways this afternoon as they take on the Boston College Eagles. Rhody returns home to the Beck following a five-game road trip in which they went 3-2. However, the trip concluded with the Rams dropping two of three to the Xavier Musketeers in a big Atlantic 10 series. The URI offense was stymied by X’s pitching staff, as they were able to score in just two of the 31 innings over the weekend.
Luckily for Rhody, BC baseball seems to be the “cure for what ails ya”. The Eagles are 9-35 on the season, including 4-20 on the road and a mind-boggling 2-21 (!!!) in ACC play. They are, umm… not good. This will be URI’s second time facing Boston College this season, with the Rams grabbing a 3-2 extra innings victory two weeks ago in Chestnut Hill.
First, let’s go over all of the Boston College hitters who have batting averages over .300. ….hmm. There aren’t any. Well, not to worry. Let’s discuss all of their starting pitchers who have winning records. …oh. They don’t have any of those either. How about any pitcher with a sub-3.50 ERA? Nope. Other than that, BC is awesome though.
OK, enough trolling. The Rhody game versus the Eagles two weeks ago was certainly close, so all kidding aside, the Rams will have to come to play if they’re going to win this afternoon. But if there’s any pitching staff that can hopefully kick-start the URI offense, it’s probably BC’s. First pitch from the Beck is slated for 3:30 p.m.
