While most other college blogs were blowing up about the NFL Draft last weekend, we at Rhody Rampage were, um… hoping Brandon Johnson-Farrell got selected in the seventh round? Or something? In any event, it wasn’t the most exciting time to be a URI football fan. Let’s face it, outside of Jason Foster, the Rams don’t have much representation in the NFL. But if things go well, that could change soon.
Why, you ask? Well, former Rhody tight end Joe Migliarese was a non-roster invite to Baltimore Ravens Rookie Mini Camp. Camp opened yesterday, and the 6’4″, 252 pounder looks to help the defending Super Bowl Champions make a run at back-to-back titles. From GoRhody.com:
Migliarese trained for four months in Hiram, Ga. and attended the Villanova pro day before competing at a regional pro day camp in Baltimore. Based on his performance in Baltimore, he was invited to participate in a super regional held in Dallas at Cowboys Stadium.
“I ran my fastest 40 time at the the super regional,” Migliarese said. “I didn’t sign a contract but I did get an invite, so it’s a foot in the door.”
Migliarese was no slouch for the Rams last season, either. He had a team-high five catches for 62 yards and a touchdown against Georgia State and followed it up with a six-catch, 60-yard day against Delaware. He also tallied a career-high eight catches in the second-to-last game of the season versus Towson. Sure, the Ravens have Dennis Pitta leading the way at the tight end spot, but who’s to say that Migliarese can’t provide some depth, or even some special teams help?
It will be interesting to see how this works out. Good luck to Joe as he tries to represent Rhody in the NFL!
