Much like he does on the recruiting trail, Dan Hurley took his time to make sure he landed the right person when making his latest hire. Hurley began to receive phone calls almost immediately when his older brother Bobby left the URI staff to take the head coaching job at Buffalo roughly a month and a half ago. But the vacancy on the Rhody bench remained open… until yesterday.
According to several reports, Dan Hurley will bring on Luke Murray, who spent last season as an assistant for the Towson Tigers. Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com was the first to report the hire:
Rhode Island’s Dan Hurley has tabbed Luke Murray from Towson to replace his brother, Bobby, on staff — source told CBSSports. Great hire.

Murray and Dan Hurley are no strangers; Luke was an assistant at Wagner College under Hurley before Dan made the jump to the University of Rhode Island. And much like the Rhody front man, Murray is regarded as one of the hottest up-and-coming coaches in the nation. And this will make Rhody fans salivate: it’s all due to his recruiting abilities. Simply put, the man is connected:
…Murray has been a familiar figure in the AAU circles, coaching the New England Playaz and the New York Gauchos. His former players have moved on to the college game at Boston College, Connecticut, Michigan, Georgetown, Maryland, Kansas, Florida, Duke and West Virginia.
Oh, and to top it all off, Murray’s dad is Bill Murray. Yes, that Bill Murray. What an incredible Cinderella story. This unknown, comes out of nowhere, to become an assistant coach of the URI Rams…
