2013 MLB Draft Underway – Will Any Rhode Island Rams Be Drafted?

It’s still strange to us to have this mid-season, but 2013 MLB First Year Player Draft began tonight, with the first round now completed. Rounds one and two will be drafted this evening, with rounds 3-10 beginning tomorrow afternoon and rounds 11-40 on Saturday. So with all those rounds, there has to be a URI player taken, right?

Our guess is yes, at least one. And maybe more. There’s a decent shot that Sean Furney, Mike Bradstreet, Mike LeBel, and Kevin Stenhouse are all selected out of the University of Rhode Island. In fact, Furney and Stenhouse have profiles set up on MLB.com right now in their “available players” section of their draft tracker.

The question at this point is where and when will the Rams be selected? If you’re all over the various draft projections and scouting reports out there on the internets, it’s believed that Furney will be the first to go. Rhody fans will be holding out hope that he is selected tomorrow, meaning that he was snatched up within the first 10 rounds. But that’s likely a long-shot at this point. Either way, we all know what a great season URI baseball had this year, and it’s going to be fun to keep an eye on some of their star players as they continue their baseball careers.
