We can’t be the only ones checking days off our calendar at this point. The 2013-14 Rhode Island Rams basketball season is as hotly anticipated as any in recent memory – certainly the most in at least 10 years. And as fans wait for the schedule to be released (we’ll likely see it within the next few weeks), there are a few games that we know so far. So let’s take a look:
First, the conference schedule. The Atlantic 10 released the conference opponents for all 12 teams earlier this week. Here’s who Rhody has on tap for their 16 A-10 games:
The asterisks denote the four “rival” teams that the Rams will play in home-and-home match-ups.
Moving on to the non-conference schedule, and that’s where it gets a little tricky. What do we know for sure? Well, URI will welcome Providence to the Ryan Center for their annual showdown, and they’ll head to Brown for the same reason. Rhody will also head to SMU and to George Mason to complete home-and-homes from last season. Yes, that’s correct. They’ll play George Mason in the non-conference schedule, as well as they conference schedule, per Chris DiSano of College Chalktalk:
URI + George Mason complete a series this year at GMU. Despite GMU to A10, game will count as non-conf just as Xavier/Butler did last year.

As for the rest of the non-conference schedule, well… nothing’s official just yet. There’s rumors of Rhody trying to schedule a preseason tournament, and they’ll likely lock down a buy game or two (St. Mary’s and Auburn were the buy games last season). Could one of those be a big-time team? We’ll have to wait and see – you never know what Dan Hurley and Co. have in their bag of tricks.
