Xavier Munford, Mike Powell, T.J. Buchanan, Mike Aaman, and Jordan Hare. For most Rhody fans, those will be the only five players they’ve seen in action before this season. But the Rams have three transfers eligible to go this season, so they’re not without experience in that regard. We’ve already previewed Gilvydas Biruta and Biggie Minnis, and we’re on to our final transfer for the 2013-14 season. Here’s a few notes on Jarelle Reischel.
- Averaged 5.7 points and 2.7 rebounds in his freshman season at Rice University. Reischel played in all 35 of the Owls’ games, one of only two players to do so in 2011-12.
- Reischel is a scorer; he reached double-figures seven times for the Owls in his only season with the team, shooting 44 percent from the field and 38 percent from three-point range.
- Turned in an absolute monster performance against UTEP back on February 1, 2012. Check this line out: 20 points (a career-high) on 7-12 shooting, 3-3 from deep, and 3-3 from the charity stripe. Reischel also added six rebounds, two assists, and five steals (also a career-high). Yeah, not too shabby.
There are a lot of intriguing new players for the University of Rhode Island this season, but Reischel is arguably at the top of that list. His first year certainly had it’s ups and downs, but what freshman season doesn’t? He’s certainly a player to keep an eye on for the next three years, especially with Dan Hurley’s staff coaching him up.
