With the 2013-14 Rhode Island Rams basketball season a little over a month away, we’ve reached our final player preview. And while it’s the third preview of a Rhody walk-on, just remember this: Anthony Malhoit was a walk-on, and he scored 21 points in one game in his URI career. With that, we take a look at Eric Youncofski.
- Appeared in only four games last year, the fewest of all Rhode Island walk-ons. Youncofski played three minutes total on the season.
- Youncofski was the first and only walk-on to score for the Rams last season, making a single free-throw in URI’s 81-44 loss to St. Joseph’s.
- In three minutes versus the Hawks, Youncofski shot 0-2 (both shots were three-pointers) and 1-2 from the line.
- Also appeared in the Ohio State, Vermont, and the final UMass game, but did not register any statistics in any of those contests.
While he’s a tad… “vertically challenged”, even for a point guard, Youncofski can get his shot off. And it’s not a bad one – don’t let the small sample size of last season fool you. Rhody is much more deep at point guard this season, but expect Youncofski to get a few more minutes this season. Let’s see what he can do.
