Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll Announced, Rhode Island Picked Ninth

Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Media Day is in progress right now in Brooklyn, which means… it’s almost here. In fact, the Rhody hoops season starts exactly one month from today. So get ready to be pummeled with predictions and projections from all angles as folks try to sort out what should be a very tight year in the conference. But for most, the only picks that really matter are the preseason coaches and media selections for the projected order of finish. If you are one of those folks, you’re in luck – the poll was announced this morning. Let’s take a look.

Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll

1. VCU
2. St. Louis
3. La Salle
4. Massachusetts
5. St. Joseph’s
6. Richmond
7. Dayton
8. George Mason
9. Rhode Island
10. George Washington
11. Fordham
12. St. Bonaventure
13. Duquesne

Some thoughts… First, the top four is about as constant as it gets. You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone picking anything other than what you see above – it’s VCU’s world and we’re all just livin’ in it. Anything from the five-spot on is up for grabs, though. The Rams could sneak in as high as the five spot this year, and all of their games against the likes of Dayton, George Mason, Richmond, etc. will be magnified.

It’s a little too early to start the NINE?!?! NINE IS WAAAYYYYY TOO LOW!!! DO YOU EVEN VOTE, BRO? chorus. Every time you feel tempted to scream it, double-check Rhode Island’s record last season. A massive jump in the standings is pretty unprecedented… which means the Rams will just have to shock the world!!!!!!

Or at least Atlantic 10 coaches and media members.
