Rhode Island Rams basketball officially got underway this Friday, and the same night also saw some good news for former Rhody hoops star Orion Outerbridge. “OO” was selected with the 16th pick in the third round (50th overall) in this weekend’s NBA Developmental League Draft. Outerbridge was selected by the Santa Cruz Warriors, the developmental team for the Golden State Warriors. If you’re not familiar with the Santa Cruz Warriors, perhaps that’s because they were known as the Dakota Wizards up until the 2012-13 season. Because of the move, OO will be heading out to California… and not Bismarck, North Dakota. Seems like he’s already winning.
The pick was officially announced on both the D-League website’s draft tracker and the official SC Warriors Twitter account:

Outerbridge finds himself in pretty elite company – he was one of only two Atlantic 10 alums selected in the eight-round, 102-pick draft. The other was former Saint Joseph’s Hawks star C.J. Aiken, who was taken fifth overall by the Texas Legends. Per his Twitter account, OO will head to Santa Cruz immediately and get to work. He sent this out last night:
Last night at home..heading out to Cali in the morning. Gonna miss my fam and friends, but they know I gotta get back to it!!!

With Lamar Odom’s struggles well chronicled, it looked as though the Rhode Island Rams wouldn’t have representation in the NBA this season. But now that Outerbridge is literally a step away, Rhody fans could be watching him very soon. We wish the best of luck to OO as he tries to make that happen.
