SMU Guard Jalen Jones to Transfer; Will Not Play Tomorrow Night Against Rhody

Well this changes things. Southern Methodist University star player Jalen Jones announced via Twitter yesterday that he is leaving the school after the fall semester and will not play another game for the Mustangs. Things seemed a little bit suspicious when the star guard sat out in SMU’s season opener against TCU, and he confirmed things yesterday via social media.

Sure, we wish Jones the best, but it’s hard not to view this as an awesome development for the Rhode Island Rams. He led the Mustangs in both scoring and rebounding last season, and we highlighted him as our “Player to Watch” tomorrow night. Instead, Illinois State transfer Nic Moore is a plyer to keep an eye on for SMU. He dropped 13 points and snagged eight boards against the Horned Frogs Friday night, and the Rams will have to readjust their focus before tomorrow night. Still, a Jones-less team looks a lot more beatable now. We’ll have a full preview of the Mustangs coming up tomorrow.
