In case you missed it, Lamar Odom was on hand at the Ryan Center today to watch his former team beat UMass Lowell 79-68. Odom has been on the campus of the University of Rhode Island this past week, working out in preparation for an NBA comeback. He’s hoping to get his third shot with the Los Angeles Clippers, and is putting in work with renowned superstar trainer Rob McClanaghan.
Today, Odom got a glimpse of the team he played on for one season in 1998-99. According to the official Rhody hoops Twitter account, he was seated on the baseline near the Rams bench, and he was honored in the first half at the under-4:00 timeout. Check it out, courtesy of the official Rhody Rams Vine account:
Odom has certainly had his troubles recently, but it’s great to see one of the URI greats back on campus. In his one season at Rhode Island, Lamar averaged 17.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per game before leaving for the NBA Draft. But not before he buried a three-pointer at the buzzer against Temple to win the Atlantic 10 Tournament, sending the Rams to the Big Dance.
Here’s hoping Odom’s comeback is a successful one. The reception he got at today’s game was powerful, proving that he’s truly one of the all-time URI greats.
