Back in October, Xavier Munford was named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason Second Team, as hopes were high for him coming into this season. And with all the new additions around him, most people thought he could excel because there would be much less pressure on him. Fast forward to now, and… not much has changed.

Through 11 games last season, Munford had attempted 169 shots. This year? 157. Roughly one less shot per game isn’t a huge difference. Don’t misunderstand this as an indictment of X, but the improvement isn’t exactly there. Whether that can be attributed to Munford himself, the players around him, or coaching can be debated for hours. The senior guard has also put up a dismal shooting percentage, especially from beyond the arc (26.9). Most fans are coming to grips with the fact that while X is certainly a scorer, he’s not exactly a shooter.

All that said, Munford continues to lead the team in scoring, posting three 20+ point performances and ten games in double digits over the first 11. He’s also one of the best (and one of the most underrated) defenders on the team. He’s the clear leader of this team, and you’d find it hard to dispute his toughness. So maybe it was unfair to expect more of X this season. That said, his shooting touch to this point is not quite where we know it can be, which is why we’ve given him a B.

Are we being too tough on Munford? Or do you see him coming around as the new pieces around him get more integrated into the offense? Let us know in the comments.
