To quote Hoop Dreams Magazine, “Jarvis Garrett is the best available point guard in the 2014 class”. Except there’s just one tiny problem with that quote… Garrett is no longer available.
The Rhode Island Rams scored a huge recruiting win this afternoon when it was announced that Wisconsin native Jarvis Garrett has verbally committed to URI. Rhody had long sought after Garrett, and the need for a point guard has been well documented. When we profiled the 2014 star about a month ago, he had narrowed his decision to either Rhode Island or Marquette, and was set to announce within a week. But things got a little tense when Garrett re-opened his recruitment a few days later, and fans worried that URI might be off the table. Until this:
Notre Dame Prep PG Jarvis Garrett just committed to URI. Huge get for Rams!

Credit for this one goes to Preston Murphy, who Garrett’s coach went out of his way to praise via Twitter. Mix this commitment in with the emergence of E.C. Matthews and Hassan Martin and it’s a great time to be a Rhody fan. And it’s not over yet – the Rams still have (at least) one scholarship left to fill. It’s time to start believing that a rise (#RISE?) to the top is coming. And if you’re not sold just yet, check out Garrett’s recruitment video.
