The Rhode Island Rams baseball team has now lost seven straight after a 6-2 loss to Coastal Carolina yesterday as Rhody’s struggles continue. This time though, the bullpen was not to blame. In fact, the relief corps was one of the bright spots yesterday as they put together six innings of one-run (zero earned) ball. Instead, the URI offense and starting pitching came up short as the Rams now drop to 1-9 on the season.
Tyler Bowditch got the start on the bump for Rhode Island, but he wasn’t there for long. The Chanticleers touched him up for two runs on four hits in the bottom of the first, but the Rams were able to answer back. A wild pitch plated URI’s first run before an RBI single from Mike Sherburne tied things up at two. It wouldn’t last long – Bowditch allowed three more runs in the bottom half of the second as his night ended early.
The Rhody offensive attack ended early as well. Rhode Island was held scoreless the rest of the way as they finished the game with just four hits. Evan Flanagan and Blaise Whitman finished things off for the Rams out of the pen as they kept the score in tact until Coastal Carolina added an insurance run in the bottom of the 8th.
The Rams will try to bounce back tonight when they take on the James Madison Dukes, once again as part of the Caravelle Resort Tournament. First pitch is slated for 5:00 p.m.
