The Louisville Cardinals comfortably dispatched the Saint Louis Billikens 66-51 this afternoon in the third round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament. Rick Pitino’s squad was clearly the better team today as SLU’s season came to an end. The loss drops the Atlantic 10 to 2-5 in the Tourney with Dayton as the lone survivor left.
Louisville ran out to a 25-16 lead at the half as they held the Billikens to a cold shooting day from start to finish. Saint Louis shot just 40 percent from the field in the game as their offensive woes finally caught up with them.
Luke Hancock led the way for the Cardinals as he dropped 21 points on 6-15 shooting, and Russ Smith chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds. Dwayne Evans led SLU with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Jordair Jett added 15 despite connecting on just 3-9 from the line.
Louisville now advances to the Sweet 16 to face the winner of Wichita State and Kentucky. Meanwhile, Dayton faces Syracuse this evening as they try to keep the A-10 alive in the tourney.
