The Rhode Island Rams received their first commitment of the regular signing period today, and it was a big one. Point guard Jarvis Garrett, who verbally committed to Rhody back in February, has officially inked his National Letter of Intent. The signing was announced via the official URI men’s basketball Twitter account (accompanied by photographic proof).

In case you need a refresher, here’s everything you need to know about URI’s newest signee:
Hometown: Milwaukee, WI
High School: Notre Dame Preparatory School
AAU Team: TP Elite
Weight: 165 lbs
We took a look at Garrett back in January, and there’s certainly a lot to be excited about. The Wisconsin native is a prototypical pass-first point guard, but make no mistake: his scoring can fill up a box score. From CBSSports.com:
Garrett is a talented offensive guard who can score at the rim or knock down shots from the perimeter. He stays under control and has good vision in a half-court set or in transition. He’s capable of beating his man off the dribble, but doesn’t force it too much if it’s not there.
And lest we forget, the Rams had only one pure point guard (Biggie Minnis) on the team for next season. Garrett now makes two, as Rhody looks to continue to improve with both talent and depth. Check out Garrett in action below. Then try to picture him on the floor with guys like E.C. Matthews, Hassan Martin, and Gilvydas Biruta. Drool.
