Around the Rim: The Geoff Cameron and Nick Greenwood Link Roundup

Around the Rim is a semi-regular piece at Rhody Rampage, recapping articles, interviews, and news regarding the Rhode Island Rams, the A-10, and the entire college sports landscape.

So it’s pretty clear that the this past week was a banner one for former URI players and their fans. Geoff Cameron anchored the United States’ defense in their big 2-1 win over Ghana, and Nick Greenwood picked up the win in his MLB debut just hours later. The buzz has been significant, so why not look at some of the best stories about the two alumni?

Geoff Cameron

  • According to the FIFA’s Castrol Index, Geoff Cameron has been the third-best player so far in the 2014 World Cup. He also ranks #2 amongst defenders and tops the list of those that wear red, white, and blue. [FIFA.com]
  • It’s on to the next one for Cameron and the USMNT. Check out this interview with Cameron in which he says that the Americans will “exploit Portugal’s weaknesses”. [Soccerly]

Nick Greenwood

  • As he exited the mound following his fist big league appearance, Greeny received a nice little standing ovation from the Busch Stadium crowd. Not a bad little Major League debut. [FoxSports Midwest]
  • It’s now official: Greenwood’s call-up will not be just a “cup of coffee”. Greeny was called upon by Mike Matheny once again last night… and once again he delivered, pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning. [Rhode Island Baseball (Facebook)]
