The July recruiting period is underway, and the Rhody basketball coaching staff has hit the road. Dan Hurley and company are in the midst of checking out five different exhibitions tournaments around the country. The staff undoubtedly has their eye on several players as part of the 3x5s. And one of them is Steve Enoch.
Enoch is a 6’10″, 200-pound power forward from Norwalk, Connecticut. He’s a rising senior at Norwalk High School, and he just finished up a three-day set at the Reebok Classic Breakout. And while his numbers weren’t jaw-dropping, he was labeled an “event standout” by Phenom Hoops Report.
Along with URI, Enoch is supposedly hearing from UConn, Drexel, Memphis, and Iona, amongst others. Looks like tough competition, and most believe that Enoch will wind up playing for Kevin Ollie in Storrs. But don’t count out Hurley just yet. According to Enoch’s coach George Mathews, the Rams are making quite the impression.
“I was really impressed with Hurley,” Mathews said. “He’s really sharp. Liked him a lot. He broke down some film, just everything, from the way he talks to his players and just what he picks up in workouts. And when we broke down film, just everything he picked up on and broke down for Steve and myself. You can tell his bloodline is top-notch basketball coaching. He really knows what the heck he’s doing, he’s a great personality.”
Sounds awesome. Will it be enough to land Enoch? If there’s any further news on the highly rated New England big man, we’ll be sure to pass it along.
