Jim Fleming and his staff are already getting a jump on 2015 recruiting. The Rhode Island Rams have received their first verbal commitment for next year: South Kingstown’s own Kyle Favreau. If that last name sounds familiar, it’s because his brother Justin is currently a fullback on Rhody’s roster. Bill Koch of the South County Independent was the first to report the news via Twitter:

Here’s a little more on URI’s first commit of the 2015 class:
Hometown: Wakefield, RI
High School: South Kingstown High School
Weight: 235 lbs
Based on his highlight videos alone, Favreau is playing a little more tight end than defensive end for SK. But he’s clearly versatile. The rising high-school senior uses his speed to get off the line on pass plays, but also possesses the strength to rush the passer on the other side of the ball. It’s probably a safe to assume that he’s a force in the blocking game at TE as well.
Besides his skill set, Favreau also helps the Rams address a need going forward. URI’s roster is a little thin at tight end right now (GoRhody.com officially lists only two players at TE), so this is added depth at the very least.
And in a recent interview, Jim Fleming said he’s interested in bringing local talent on board at Rhode Island. Looks like he’s off to a good start.
