Big things continue to come for Rhode Island basketball.. and the season hasn’t even started yet. But check this out: E.C. Matthews has been named as a camp counselor for adidas Nations Global 2014. GoRhody.com officially announced the news, but Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports was the first to float the possibility via Twitter.
A young, 6-5 point guard a couple NBA scouts told me they'd love to see in counselor games vs. elite at Adidas Nations: URI's E.C. Matthews.

So… what exactly is adidas Nations Global 2014? Think of it as sort of an Olympics for the best of the best 18-and-under collegiate prospects. Players will be split into eight teams: Africa, Asia Pacific, Canada, China, Europe, Latin America and the United States. The 2014 event runs from July 31 through August 4, with games being played at the Next Level Sports complex in Garden Grove, California.
Obviously, Matthews isn’t under 18 and he’s not in high school. So what exactly is a camp counselor? Every year adidas selects 30 of the best NCAA hoopsters to come in and provide training and coaching both on and off the court. Oh, and he’ll also have an opportunity to play in “Counselor Games” against other counselors – who are some of the best college basketball players in the country (more on that in a minute). While counselor games are not exactly the focal point of adidas Nations, there are always NBA scouts in attendance to check out some of these contests.
It’s becoming more and more evident: URI’s sophomore guard is kind of a big deal. Congrats to E.C. on this awesome achievement!
