Heading into the 2014 season, Rhody football fans can be certain of (at least) one thing. The Rams have some serious depth, talent, and experience at the wide receiver spot. We already know about Robbie Jackson’s capabilities, but he’s not going to have to carry the WRs alone. Here’s a peek at Rutgers transfer and fellow senior Jawaun Wynn.
Hometown: Piscataway, NJ
Weight: 215 lbs
Wynn came to Kingston before the start of last season after playing two years for the Scarlet Knights. The Jersey native saw most of his playing time come on special teams at Rutgers, but Rhode Island has been utilizing him as a receiver.
And it’s paid off. Wynn started all but one game in 2013 as he caught 36 balls for 408 yards and a touchdown. He also led the team in yards per catch (11.3), all while recording at least one reception in every single game.
Still, it’s probably fair to say that fans were hoping for a little bit more from a guy coming from a pretty good FBS school. Additionally, Wynn was recruiting by Boston College, UConn, Temple, and others out of high school. So maybe there were higher expectations, fair or not.
But now that Wynn has a full year at receiver under his belt, let’s see what he can do. There’s no doubt the coaching staff will try to utilize him as much as possible in their system – will it pay dividends? Let us know your thoughts on Wynn.
