Let’s face it – it’s been a while since the Rhode Island Rams football team has, you know, won a game. And make no mistake about it – this year’s schedule is no cakewalk. But is there another win-less season on the horizon?
We think not – and we’re calling a win for Rhody right now: URI will beat William and Mary on September 21st.

The Skinny:

2012 Record: 2-9 (1-7 in the Colonial Athletic Association)
Key Losses: LB Dante Cook, LB Jabrel Mines, S Brian Thompson
Key Returners: QB Raphael Ortiz, RB Keith McBride II, WR Tre McBride

Player to Watch: WR Tre McBride

The Tribe return most of their skill offensive players for 2013, but none were more explosive last season than wide receiver Tre McBride. The 6’1″, 200-pounder is coming off a stellar sophomore season, and he’ll be looking to improve on his numbers this year. In 11 games, McBride tallied 55 catches for 897 yards and 10 touchdowns, leading the team in all three categories. His 10 receiving TDs ranked second in the CAA, and his yards-per-game slotted him 27th nationally. Joe Trainer certainly made some upgrades to Rhody’s secondary through recruiting, and they’ll certainly be put to the test against McBride.

Prediction: Rhode Island 20 – William & Mary 13

Yes, William & Mary is returning a lot of players. But from a team that went 2-9 last season, is that really a good thing? Most of the Tribe’s personnel losses were on the defensive side of the ball, which was largely their strength last season. So expect Rhody to be able to put enough points on the board to pick up a big road victory.
