So losing streaks are never fun… especially seven-game losing streaks. The Rhode Island Rams will have a chance to snap theirs this evening when they take on the James Madison Dukes as part of the Caravelle Resort Tournament. Rhody is currently 0-1 in the weekend tourney after their 6-2 loss to Coastal Carolina yesterday.

2013 Record: 25-30 (11-15 in the CAA)
Key Losses: OF Colby Roberts, OF Cole McInturff, P Michael Church
Key Returners: IF/OF Chad Carroll, IF Conner Brown, P Michael Howerton

The Dukes come into this afternoon’s game at 5-5 on the season, including a 1-0 mark in the Caravelle Resort Tournament. JMU scored a hard-fought 10-inning win yesterday as they defeated the Marshall Thundering Herd 8-5. The Rams will face Marshall tomorrow in their final game of the tourney.

Rhody will likely see junior Chris Huffman on the hill for James Madison today, which isn’t exactly good news. The righty is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA so far this season, including one complete game victory. Huffman has fanned 13 over 12 innings of work on the season, and the early stats indicate that he is JMU’s best pitcher by a significant margin.

The Dukes are a very solid hitting team as evidenced by their .280 team average. Senior Matt Tenaglia is their biggest threat at the plate, as he carries a .424 average into this one. Tenaglia also has three doubles, two triples, a home run, and a team leading 12 RBI through the first 10 games. Infield Ty McFarland is JMU’s token power hitter, as he’s already racked up five long balls in his 10 starts, while carrying a .364 batting average.

The URI bats are likely going to have to come alive if they’re going to end their skid. First pitch from Myrtle Beach will come at 5:00 p.m.
