The Rhode Island Rams received a signed commitment from wide receiver Justin Caines today as part of National Signing Day. The signing was first announced via URI football’s official Twitter account.

Here’s a little more on the JuCo transfer (and the first announced recruit of the day for the Rams):

Hometown: La Habra, CA
Junior College: Cerritos College
Position: WR
Height: 6’1″
Weight: 205 lbs
Twitter: @J_caines18

Once again, URI goes the JuCo route (no pun intended) when it comes to wide receivers. It’s a formula that has worked for them in the past: Robbie Jackson, Jawaun Wynn, and Phadrae White all came to Kingston either via transfer or by way of a junior college. And all were able to contribute immediately.

So there’s no doubt that that’s what Jim Fleming will be hoping for with Caines. The book on the California native is that he has great hands, he’s athletic, and he’s physical. Add in some JuCo experience and he can hopefully bolster a URI receiving group that struggled a bit last season.

Here’s a look at Caines’ highlight video.
