Can anyone remember the last time we knew this much about Rhody’s out-of-conference schedule before June 1st? It’s probably not too surprising, especially as URI basketball rises up the national ranks. And as a result, teams — especially good ones — are going to be lining up to face them.

So here’s the bit of 2015-16 Rhode Island Rams schedule news that dropped yesterday, courtesy of CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein.

The Cougars play in the American (aka AAC) Conference, so we’re already in power conference territory. Houston is coming off a down year that saw them finish at 13-19 (4-14), but most are predicting a bounce-back season this time around. Also worth noting: the Cougars haven’t played an A-10 team since December 30th, 2008, when they blew the doors off UMass 80-54.

And since it’s a home-and-home agreement, we now know a little something about the 2016-17 slate. Figure both match-ups will give Rhody a good test against an opponent from a quality conference. Hopefully Houston fans are saying the same thing.
