The 2016 Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship bracket has been released. How does the field stack up for Rhody?
It all starts on Wednesday.
Oh, unless you’re the top-seeded Rhode Island Rams, who earned the regular season conference title and a first round bye. In that case, it starts on Thursday. But, yeah, for six other teams… it all starts on Wednesday.
The full seven-team field for the 2016 Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship has been announced, with the double-elimination tournament set to get underway on Wednesday morning. Here’s a look at the bracket (click to enlarge).
Thanks to the extended break, URI’s first game is slated for 1:30 p.m. on Thursday against the winner of 4-seed Saint Louis and 5-seed Fordham. Rhody has only seen one of those two teams this year, dropping two of three to the Bronx Rams in their only A-10 series loss of the season. Rhode Island didn’t draw Saint Louis this year, although they’re consistently a tough out in the conference.
The Billikens finished the year at 25-29 (15-9), while Fordham compiled a 28-27 (14-10) record in 2016. It’s worth noting that Fordham is the host of the tourney, so they may have some fans on hand in the Bronx to give them an extra edge.
SLU and the “other” Rams will meet on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. For URI, they’ll just wait and see.
